Red color light means unit is charging the battery (and does not mean malfunction as it does on some cell phone chargers), and when charging is done, the red light turns green. There is no yellow color. It charges battery fairly fast.

I purchased this for a family member who lost theirs. Best Buy tried charging them over $40 for similar product! I told them that was insane to pay that and found this for them. It works so well my mom wants one for her camera too.
